Children’s librarian Kathleen Dasney, Police Officer Maureen Flynn and Revenue Division Manager Ed Paul have been named the city’s 1994 Employees of the Year for their work and dedication to the betterment of the city.

Each received a plaque and a check for $350; their names were added to a perpetual trophy on display in City Hall.

Dasney, a former teacher, was named General Government Employee of the Year. She became the children’s librarian at the Fullerton Public Library in 1979.

Her supervisors call Dasney an “exemplary” employee who spends countless off-duty hours reviewing potential acquisitions for the Children’s Room in the library. She turned old card catalogues into a fund-raising “Honor Wall” that has raised more than $1,000 for the library.

Flynn, a former college basketball star, received the Safety Employee of the Year award for her work in presenting public education programs to community groups, residents and businesses.

Paul, a former deputy district manager for the U.S. Department of Energy, was named Manager of the Year. He oversees the city’s business registration and licensing program.

Paul was praised by city officials for his involvement in the Certified Municipal Business Tax Assn. and other professional organizations, which has resulted in more than $40,000 in new revenue for the city.

The award recipients were nominated by their co-workers and selected by City Manager James L. Armstrong.
