EL TORO : Late Flights, Extra Noise in Drills at Air Station

Share via

Residents may experience an increase in aircraft noise around El Toro Marine Corps Air Station starting next week when F-18 pilots simulate landing on aircraft carriers. Late-night transport flights will also occur.

Pilots will circle the Marine base, then land in an area the same size as an aircraft carrier’s landing deck. Pilots will follow special noise abatement procedures during the flights, a Marine base spokesman said.

The practices will be at the base on the following dates and times:

* Monday and Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.

* Fridays, including Jan. 13, 20 and 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

El Toro pilots also will make late-night transport flights this month. No takeoffs will occur after 11 p.m. The airfield will remain open later than normal from Tuesday through Thursday, and on Jan. 19, 23-26 and 30-31.
