NEWPORT BEACH : Planning Panel OKs 300-Unit Complex
The Planning Commission has approved plans for a 300-unit development to be built by the Irvine Co.
The project, to be called Baypointe, is to be built and operated initially as apartments that may later be sold as condominiums, planner John Douglas said.
The development will be built on 18.6 acres at 3100 Jamboree Road. The gated community is scheduled to include 92 one-bedroom and 208 two-bedroom apartments ranging from 723 to 1,058 square feet.
There will be three park areas, including a wildlife habitat to be left in its natural wetland state below Bonita Creek, which forms the project’s eastern boundary.
Plans for the gated community were approved in principle in 1993, but the Irvine Co. submitted specific plans Thursday.
The finalized plans included a request to reduce the parking requirements for the complex because of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department constraints imposed to protect the gnatcatcher habitat around the site. Gnatcatchers are on the federal list of species threatened with extinction.
The plan goes to the City Council for approval Monday night.
