Softlab Inc.: The Atlanta-based software company, owned by German auto maker BMW, said Monday that it has opened a sales and marketing office in Irvine.

Jim Smith has been appointed vice president of the company’s western region and will head the Irvine operation. The office will add about a dozen employees in the next few months, spokeswoman Elyse Familant said.
