Two 20-year-old women filed separate lawsuits against the city of Glendale Monday, alleging that a police officer demanded to see their breasts during a routine traffic stop over the weekend.

The women, identified by their attorney only as Alice S. and Taline K., claim they were on their way home from a coffeehouse just after midnight Saturday when they were pulled over by the officer for having a faulty taillight.

“At the beginning of the traffic stop, it was relatively normal,” attorney Charles Mathews said. “Then the conversation began focusing on their bodies, their breasts. He began demanding that they show him their breasts.”

Glendale police spokesman Rod Brooks said the department was aware of the complaints, but could not comment on the case or confirm the name of the officer given to the women, Scott Holmes.

“We’ve turned it over to internal affairs for a thorough investigation,” Brooks said.

On Monday, Mathews filed claims against the city of Glendale seeking $750,000 for each woman and asked the district attorney’s office to investigate the incident.

During a news conference held in his Pasadena office, Mathews did not allow either of his clients to speak. But he allowed them to appear before television cameras as one of them was near tears.

“No woman,” Mathews said, “should be subjected to what happened to these 20-year-old girls.”

The women were on their way home Saturday when their BMW was pulled over near San Fernando Road and Chevy Chase Drive by a uniformed officer who was not wearing a name badge, Mathews said.

The officer was soon joined by two other officers, who chatted with him and eventually left the scene, according to the women.

“He kept talking about the size of their nipples and shining his flashlight on their nipples and legs,” Mathews said. “He engaged in improper conduct, ordering the girls to disrobe, at least partially.”

One of them, Taline K., eventually consented by showing her breast to him, according to the lawsuits. “She was terrified and submitted to his authority,” Mathews said.

The officer then asked Alice S. to step out of the car and allegedly grabbed her by the skirt as Taline K. snapped a quick picture of the scene and hid the camera under her legs.

The women told their lawyer that the officer showed them his wedding ring and said: “I’m a faithful man, but I will never forget this stop.”

“This whole episode has left me shaken and upset,” one of the women stated in her complaint. “To the best of my recollection, the above are the facts that I am presently able to recall about what happened to us.”
