NORTH HOLLYWOOD : Delegate Named to Conference on Aging

A North Hollywood member of Rep. Howard L. Berman’s (D-Panorama City) Senior Advisory Council was named a delegate to the 1995 White House Conference on Aging, scheduled May 2 to 5 in Washington.

Milton Tepper, 80, a former chairman of Berman’s senior council, is a veteran advocate for seniors. He is a member of the Los Angeles County Commission on Aging, which advises the Board of Supervisors; was vice president of the Los Angeles City Council on Aging, and was vice chairman of the Valley Interfaith Council Aging Commission.

In 1994, Tepper was honored by Los Angeles County for his years of service to seniors.

Tepper, who has lived in the San Fernando Valley for 42 years, is one of 2,000 delegates from 50 states invited to attend the conference. Delegates make policy recommendations and attempt to educate the public about issues facing seniors by highlighting the contributions of older Americans.

Tepper said he was delighted by the appointment, which allows him to return to his native Washington, D.C. “Aging is the most misunderstood part of our lives,” Tepper said. “Aging generally gets only negative publicity. Many older people are still quite capable and desirous of being active, but are put aside because of their age.”

Berman named Dale Hines of Granada Hills as an alternate delegate.

Hines spent 29 years as a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District. He is currently president of the San Fernando Valley-based National Health Care Coalition and a member of the Van Nuys Chapter of the American Assn. of Retired Persons.
