Share

This year’s Tet Festival will be Feb. 3 to 5 at Sarah McGarvin Intermediate School, near Gillespie Park on Bishop Place.

The City Council this week granted a permit for the annual event celebrated by the local Vietnamese American community to coincide with the Chinese New Year.

In recommending a permit approval, Police Chief Jim Cook said that the festival committee met fire, police and Planning Department requirements, but hours will be shortened to reduce the impact on the neighboring area.

Festival hours will be from 4 to 10 p.m. Feb. 3; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Feb. 4, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Feb. 5.

About 100,000 people are expected to attend the three-day event, which features cultural shows, food booths and carnival rides. Money raised from the carnival is donated to local service organizations.

McGarvin School is at 9802 Bishop Place.
