Share

An award-winning documentary on the civil rights movement will be shown Sunday as part of a program that will include a special presentation by the directors of the film, Connie Field and Marilyn Mulford.

“Freedom on My Mind,” winner of the 1994 Sundance Grand Jury Prize, chronicles the voter registration drive in Mississippi in 1961 and 1964.

The film is being shown in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday and is intended to promote cooperation between one of the city’s largest black churches, Second Baptist Church, and Wilshire Boulevard Temple, one of the oldest and largest Jewish synagogues. Congregants from the church and the temple are expected to attend the screening, which is open to the public.

“We want to recount the time when both groups had a common goal that united them,” said Rabbi Steve Garten of Wilshire Boulevard Temple.

The screening will be at Raleigh Studios, 650 N. Bronson Ave., Hollywood. Tickets are $5 for adults, $2.50 for children under 12. Reservations required: (213) 388-2401.
