Thomson to Sell 25 Newspapers: The Stamford, Conn.-based newspaper group said it will sell the primarily small papers in the West and Midwest as it regroups its remaining newspapers into regional clusters. Proceeds from the sales will be used to buy additional newspapers, the company said. Thomson said it does not plan any layoffs or closures as part of its restructuring. The papers on the auction block include the Desert Dispatch in Barstow; the Ada (Okla.) Evening News; the Big Spring (Tex.) Herald; the Times-Tribune, Corbin, Ky.; the Del Rio News-Herald, Del Rio, Tex.; the Dickinson (N.D.) Press; the Huntsville (Tex.) Item; the Kerrville (Tex.) Daily Times; the Leavenworth (Kan.) Times; the Northwest Arkansas Times, Fayetteville; the Daily Republic, Mitchell, S.D.; the Palladium-Times, Oswego, N.Y.; the Portsmouth (Ohio) Daily Times; the Richmond (Ky.) Register; the Sedalia (Mo.) Democrat, and the Vidette-Messenger, Valparaiso, Ind.
