Simi Valley : City Will Sell Land Zoned for Industry

Share

Nearly half an acre of land owned by the city of Simi Valley will be appraised and offered for sale because city officials no longer have any use for the property.

City Council members agreed late Monday to sell the land, east of Tapo Canyon Road, now that the city has abandoned plans to widen Los Angeles Avenue.

The city acquired the property 19 years ago to widen Los Angeles Avenue and construct an overpass for a nearby railroad track. The land is zoned for light industrial, meaning it could be used for commercial or manufacturing purposes.

Assistant City Manager Don Penman said he has received inquiries about purchasing the acreage from at least two buyers, but he is not sure how much it is worth on the open market.

“That’s one reason we’re asking to have an appraisal done,” Penman said. “The configuration of it is very unique, which would affect access, and that affects the sale price.”

The appraisal will be done within the next few weeks, Penman said. After that, advertisements will be posted and bids will be entertained by the City Council, he said.
