Balboa Blvd. Closed Due to Rain Runoff

Share

Rising storm runoff in the Sepulveda Basin shut down Balboa Boulevard between Victory and Burbank boulevards at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, as water reached levels of one to two feet, Los Angeles police reported.

“It will be closed periodically throughout the night,” said Sgt. James Stoney. “The whole street is flooded and cars are having a hard time crossing it.”

That stretch of Balboa Boulevard passes through the Sepulveda Basin, which is designed as a storage area for heavy rainfall runoff held back by Sepulveda Dam. The dam controls the amount of water that passes into the Los Angeles River, and downstream through the Los Angeles Basin to the ocean.
