CLUB REVIEW : This FM Station Locks Into Straight-Ahead Rock Channel

Share

FM Station is a club with a heart----of metal, that is.

The clientele of this North Hollywood venue has big hair, bandannas and a genuine love for straight-ahead rock ‘n’ roll--to them, grunge is just another word for dirty.

Indeed, the jet-black club looks and feels like rock’s last outpost in L.A. Although it may as well be the ‘80s inside--all the customers appear primed for a Motley Crue video shoot--it seems the fans are less trapped in a time warp than united by their metal music of choice.

No matter what band is on the roomy stage, all attention is focused on the headbanging music--which is easy enough, because the club has excellent sight-lines. This is a venue for regulars--everyone in line seems to know everyone else on a typical Saturday night. But FM Station also offers the wanna-be Hessian (as metal-heads are termed) a chance to get, uh, hip. If you’re not appropriately accessorized, silver rock ‘n’ roll jewelry (which means a lot of skulls) is sold at the club’s entrance.

Only Wednesday’s homage to disco provides a variation on a fashion and music stance that, as the club’s heavily sponsored exterior explains, is about rock, rock and rock! For those tuning into FM Station, rock on.
