Bike Inspection Plan Launched: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Cannondale Corp. announced the start of an inspection label program for all of the company’s bikes made after 1983. Essentially, Cannondale, a publicly held high-performance bike company based in Georgetown, Conn., is giving riders of its post-1983 bikes a lifetime guarantee on the frames, offering to replace them free if they are cracked. The owner can return the frame to the retailer for a free one under the program’s warranty replacement system. The company said frame failures can occur suddenly and that riders have been seriously injured as a result.
