VENTURA : Boys & Girls Club to Honor 9 at Dinner

The Boys & Girls Club of Ventura will honor nine people, including a Ventura County judge and a pro basketball player, at its annual Medallion Awards dinner Feb. 11.

William Peck, a Superior Court judge, will receive the club’s highest award, the Boys & Girls Club Medallion. Peck served on the club’s board of directors from 1973 to 1989 and was board president in 1976. He has also served on various committees for the club and now sits on its honorary board of directors.

Also to be honored are Harry O. Bostwick, Gary Nasalroad, Stan Whisenhunt, Linda Kay Fisher and Nancy Cloutier. All have had a longstanding involvement with the club.

Cedric Ceballos, who now plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, will be inducted this year to the club’s Alumni Hall of Fame. Ceballos, who participated in the club as a teen-ager, went on to play basketball at Ventura College and Cal State Fullerton before joining the Phoenix Suns.

Natalie Bryce, 13, and Rueben Ojeda, 16, will be honored as this year’s Youths of the Year, selected in a vote by other teen-agers and staff members.

The Boys & Girls Club of Ventura was first established in 1938 as the Ventura Police Boys Club. It provides sports and recreation, leadership and music clubs, drama performances, arts and crafts and field trips for Ventura youths.
