Ringo Starr and Stevie Nicks have teamed up to do a song for an album saluting the late Harry Nilsson, who died of a heart attack last year. The Starr-Nicks duet, “Lay Down Your Arms,” is an anti-gun violence song written by Nilsson after the death of John Lennon. Among others set to appear on the album, due in late April, are Brian Wilson, Randy Newman, Aimee Mann, Victoria Williams, Marc Cohn, Fred Schneider and Jimmy Webb. . . .

Linda Ronstadt has finished a new album, “Feels Like Home,” a collection of pop and folk songs, including Tom Petty’s “The Waiting” (the first single) and Neil Young’s “After the Gold Rush.” The album is due March 14. . . .

Erasure is working on a new album, due in the fall, with several producers, including Gareth Jones, who worked with group member Vince Clarke when Clarke was in the early Depeche Mode. . . .

Speaking of Depeche Mode, the group has not broken up (contrary to some reports) and Martin Gore is doing preliminary work on new songs for the band. . . .

Gerald LeVert is planning to team with his dad, O’Jays member Eddie LeVert, for an album later this year. But first the younger singer must finish another project--producing a few songs for the New Edition reunion album. . . . Silk has finished the tracks for its next album but a nasty battle with Keith Sweat has to settled before it comes out. Silk is seeking to sever ties with the producer-writer who discovered the R&B; vocal group. . . .

The title of White Zombie’s upcoming album, due April 11, is a mouthful: “Astro-Creep 2000: Songs of Love, Destruction and Other Synthetic Delusions of the Electric Head.”
