THOUSAND OAKS : Measles Exposure at Arts Plaza Feared
A person infected with measles may have exposed a number of Thousand Oaks residents to the disease by attending two recent performances at the Civic Arts Plaza, Ventura County health officials said.
People who attended the “Chorus Line” show Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. and the Conejo Youth Symphony concert Jan. 20 at 7:30 p.m. may contract measles if they have not already had the disease or received two immunizations to prevent it, health officials said.
The warning comes after public health officials declared a measles epidemic in the county Tuesday.
By Thursday, 36 cases of the disease had been confirmed.
Officials advised residents to watch for the symptoms that develop 10 days after exposure to the virus, including fever, a cough, a runny nose, and red, watery or light-sensitive eyes. Those symptoms precede the measles rash.
Authorities urged those who think they may have the disease to contact their physicians.
