FULLERTON : Concert to Showcase Upgraded Pipe Organ

Share

The historic Wurlitzer at Plummer Auditorium will be played by theater organist Gene Roberson at 8 tonight.

Presenting the concert are the Orange County chapter of the American Guild of Organists and the Fullerton Joint Union High School District Educational Foundation. The suggested donation is $5.

The powerful theater pipe organ made its concert premiere in 1930--the same year the auditorium was dedicated. But because of its design limitations, the instrument was rarely played at public gatherings.

In 1992, the school district hired the Trousdale Organ Co. to electronically upgrade the Wurlitzer. After the yearlong contract was completed, company owner Bob Trousdale and a team of helpers have continued restoring the organ on a voluntary basis.

Plummer Auditorium is at Fullerton High School, 210 E. Chapman Ave., at Lemon Street.
