The Costa Mesa Library on Park Avenue launched its tax preparation assistance program on Wednesday, offering free help with federal and state income tax paperwork to those in need.

The community volunteer program will be offered to local residents every Wednesday until April 12 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., branch manager Marianna Hof said.

Hof said the volunteers helping out have been trained in tax return preparation by the Franchise Tax Board and the Internal Revenue Service.

Assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis in the library’s community room, at 1855 Park Ave.
