AGOURA HILLS : Members Sought for Equestrian Panel

Agoura Hills officials are seeking volunteers who are knowledgeable about equestrian riding for a task force being set up to help establish regulations for a regional facility under construction.

The five-member task force will serve until May, when the facility is expected to be completed, said Audrey Brown, Agoura Hills’ director of community services.

The equestrian facility, part of a 10-acre park that is replacing a smaller city park, will be located between Chesebro Road, Colodny Drive and Driver Avenue.

Funding has already been obtained for the equestrian facility and for a baseball field and children’s playground, city officials said. The city is still trying to raise money to build a basketball court and a 1,500-square-foot recreation building at the site.

Under the plans, the equestrian facility will be free and open to users from the surrounding area, including non-Agoura Hills residents, city officials said. The facility will link up with the Zuma Ridge Trail, an equestrian path running through unincorporated Los Angeles County territory.

The Old Agoura Park Task Force will provide city officials with input on safety issues, such as whether the facility should be equipped with horse jumps, Brown said. The task force will also help determine whether the facility should be reserved for groups and what types of events should be staged there, she said.
