SIMI VALLEY : Stores Vow to Clean Up Quake Debris

Share

The owners of the earthquake-devastated Pic ‘N’ Save and Sears Outlet stores on Tapo Street in Simi Valley have told officials that they will clean up the sites soon.

The city was preparing to take action over the sites, abandoned since the Jan. 17, 1994, quake. Residents have complained that the buildings attract trash and transients and are a nuisance in the neighborhood.

Officials from Sears notified the city Thursday that they will either renovate their building or tear it down soon, said Assistant City Manager Don Penman.

Pic ‘N’ Save officials told city workers last week that they will tear down their building and open in another location in Simi Valley, Penman said. He said Pic ‘N’ Save officials reported that the first bids received on the demolition work were too high.

Penman said he was optimistic that work on both sites would begin within two months.

“They really can’t afford to sit and wait any longer,” he said.
