Suicide Threat Prompts Evacuation

Share

Nine homes were evacuated Thursday when a suicidal woman barricaded herself in her bathroom with a gun and then pointed it at police who tried to check on her, authorities said.

Neighbors in the 15900 block of Blackhawk Street, near Densmore Avenue, were evacuated by police about 3:30 p.m. after Suzanna Cody, 26, left a suicide note for her husband and locked herself in the bathroom with a loaded .45-caliber handgun, Los Angeles Police Lt. Jim Cansler said.

Cody’s husband called police. As the husband and police opened the bathroom door, Cody pointed the gun at them and told them “to get out and to leave her alone to die,” Cansler said.

The officers and her husband fled, Cansler said.

LAPD’s crisis response team negotiated with Cody and persuaded her to give herself up at 7:45 p.m., police said.

Cody was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail at the Devonshire Division jail, police said.
