Share

Capital murder charges were filed Friday against a purported gang member accused of an apartment firebombing that killed a 2-year-old boy and gravely injured the boy’s mother and newborn sister.

Dwayne Moore, 23, appeared briefly in Inglewood Municipal Court but did not enter a plea to one special-circumstance count of murder by arson, two counts of attempted murder and one count of arson.

Moore, if convicted, faces the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole. The defendant is being held without bail.

The 2-year-old boy, Robert Davis, died Jan. 29 after a Molotov cocktail was thrown through the window of his mother’s first-floor apartment in the 4900 block of West 116th Street in Hawthorne. The boy’s mother, Valerie Rivers, 20, and her 2-day-old daughter were burned and remain hospitalized in critical condition.

Officials said the attack apparently stemmed from a dispute between Rivers’ boyfriend and the defendant.
