WESTLAKE : Community Garden Ready for Planting

After almost four months of preparation by neighbors and volunteers, a community garden is ready for planting.

A kickoff ceremony will be held today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Burlington Avenue Community Garden on Burlington just south of Maryland Avenue. The garden sports new plumbing and lead-free topsoil as well as a donated fence with a locking gate.

Residents who wish to plant flowers and vegetables or volunteer to help others must bring their gardening tools. Some equipment will be provided, as well as seeds, compost and plants.

Children and adults from the neighborhood may also participate in the completion of a mural along the back wall of the garden. Paint and brushes will be available.
