BURBANK : Main Post Office to Move Some Services

Share

Letter carriers based at Burbank’s main post office will begin their trudge through rain, sleet and snow from a different location starting next week.

During the Presidents’ Day holiday weekend, employees of the 57,000- square-foot facility in west Burbank will pack their files and belongings and move them a few blocks from 2140 N. Hollywood Way to 3811 Valhalla Drive.

By Feb. 21, all operations except window services will be conducted from a smaller former Lockheed Corp. administrative office building leased by the Postal Service until the Hollywood Way building undergoes seismic retrofitting and general repairs and renovation.

Window services, which include stamp purchases, package pickups and post office box access, will continue at the old facility until further stages in renovation require that they, too, be temporarily relocated.

However, according to postal officials, those services will not be moved to the Valhalla Drive facility.

“As of yet, we still do not know where the (window) services will be conducted from,” said post office spokesperson Terri Boufflou. “But, most likely, they will be very close to the old facility.”

According to Boufflou, the post office will announce a location once a decision has been made.

“The important thing is that people know that the renovation will not have a major impact on postal delivery services,” Boufflou said. “Mail will be delivered at the same time and, because the move is only a few blocks away, people will not be asked to go out of their way to (continue their business with that branch.)”

Services to be located at the temporary Valhalla Drive facility include bulk mail acceptance, business mailing and caller service.
