If you’re going to make the drive to San Luis Obispo County for entertainment purposes, the entertainment better be good. This will likely be the case when Blood, Sweat and Tears--now in its third decade of music-making, believe it or not--plays Sunday at Cuesta College.

The 1970s band sold 10 million copies of its debut album. The recording included the singles “Spinning Wheel,” “And When I Die” and “You Made Me So Very Happy.” Concert time is 6 p.m. Tickets are $17 (general), $15 (seniors). Call 546-3131. The college is off Highway 1, about seven miles past San Luis Obispo. Take U.S. 101 to the Highway 1-Morro Bay exit.

This five-headliner show will feature the UC Santa Barbara Gospel Choir, the Bethel AME Church Cathedral Choir, the Inner Light Gospel Choir with Mama Pat, the St. Paul AME Church/Inter Faith Ministerial Alliance Choir, and Dorothy “The Foot Stomper” Shell.

Blues piano and vocal great Charles Brown will be in concert Friday at 8 p.m. at the UCSB MultiCultural Theater as part of the school’s Black History Month celebration. Brown will be joined by Clifford Solomon (tenor saxophone), Danny Caron (guitar), Ruth Davies (bass) and Gaylord Birch (drums). General admission is $18. Call 893-8411.

The Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles will perform a wide range of musical selections in concert Saturday at UCSB’s Campbell Hall. The group formed in 1979, the year of the gay and lesbian March on Washington, and performed in the first national gay and lesbian concert at the Washington Memorial.

This weekend’s program will include works by Faure, Copland, Sondheim, Puccini, Verdi, Wagner and Russian composer Paul Tshnokov. The group will also perform Roger Bourland’s “Flashpoint/Stonewall,” a piece commemorating the Stonewall Inn riots in New York’s Greenwich Village in 1969. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18, $15 and $12. Call 893-3535.

Violinist Gil Shaham will be the guest soloist when the Santa Barbara Symphony performs Saturday and Sunday at the Arlington Theatre. The program will include Schubert’s Symphony No. 4, the ‘Tragic,” Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements and Sibelius’ Violin Concerto. Saturday’s concert will begin at 8 p.m., and Sunday’s concert at 3 p.m. Tickets are $13 to $34 Saturday and $10 to $25 Sunday. Call 963-4408.
