Alarmed by two recent shooting incidents at a small city park frequented by mothers and children, an overflow crowd of more than 200 residents jammed the Silver Lake Recreation Center on Wednesday night for a meeting aimed at ensuring safety at the adjacent park.

Police officials told residents they would increase their presence at Silver Lake Park. Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg, who presided over the meeting, said she would help form a park safety committee to look into such proposals as video surveillance and increased fencing at the park.

The first shooting incident occurred in midafternoon Feb. 5, police said, when a man in a car opened fire on two groups of taggers who had been playing football in the park. The second incident occurred Feb. 10 when several youngsters fired shots at a vehicle speeding away from the park. No one was hit in the Feb. 5 attack and one person was believ e d to have been injured in the second incident.
