COMPTON : City to Convert Auditorium Into Cultural Center

Share

The mayor of Compton presented a $500,000 check to Compton Unified School District officials Thursday, money that will be used to convert a high school auditorium into a city cultural center.

“Our search to find the perfect performance hall led us to Compton High School’s auditorium,” Mayor Omar Bradley said during a news conference at the auditorium.

“With some renovations, we are confident that this auditorium will accommodate performances of all types,” he said, “and help meet the entertainment needs of the community.”

The city money will pay for fixing 1,600 seats, refurbishing the stage and upgrading the lighting system.

J. Jerome Harris, state administrator for the school district, said he and his colleagues are “enthused about this new partnership with the city because we believe this project will enrich the lives of our students as well as Compton’s citizens.”
