WESTSIDE : Parking Ticket Proposal Rejected by City Council
The Los Angeles City Council on Friday rejected Mayor Richard Riordan’s plan to turn over ticket-writing operations on the Westside to a private agency.
Instead, the council voted 13 to 1 to hire 75 more parking officers. Councilman Joel Wachs was the lone dissenter. The vote killed a key measure Riordan proposed as part of his first budget last year.
Councilman Richard Alarcon said he was worried that private parking officers would be overzealous in writing tickets and would neglect other duties.
