Los Angeles police were searching Friday for a 19-year-old North Hills man accused of killing a fellow gang member last month over a $20 narcotics debt.

Eric Herdliska was being sought in the Jan. 21 slaying of Alex Aguirre, 25, of Sylmar, who was shot in the chest at an apartment complex in the 15200 block of Nordhoff Street in North Hills, Detective Al Aldaz said.

“The suspect felt that the victim owed him $20 for some narcotics,” Aldaz said. “It ended up in a confrontation.”

Witnesses to the shooting identified Herdliska as the gunman, Aldaz said. He is believed to be in the North Hills area. “We think the suspect is being aided by fellow gang members,” Aldaz said.

Police are seeking information regarding Herdliska’s whereabouts and are asking for the public’s help, Aldaz said.

Homicide detectives investigating the killing can be reached at the Devonshire Division at (818) 756-8291.
