Social Security Checks

* The problem of postal robberies of government checks (Feb. 11) is one we have been dealing with for several years at the Social Security Administration. Each month hundreds of recipients in Los Angeles County report stolen checks. Our best advice is to encourage those receiving a Social Security check to sign up for direct deposit to their bank account. This can be done by calling 1 (800) 772-1213 weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
