THOUSAND OAKS : Program Introduces Students to Careers

Share

To introduce students to the working world, the Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Conejo Valley Unified School District are sponsoring Student Shadowing Day on April 19.

In its second year, the program is designed to give high school students in Thousand Oaks on-the-job exposure to careers of their choice by spending a school day with local business people.

“Students rarely get a real taste of the real world until their first job,” said Ron LaGuardia, event coordinator. “By then, it’s too late. We are giving them a head start to catch a glimpse of what they may want.”

More than 50 Conejo Valley professionals participated in last year’s shadowing day, including travel agents, park rangers, teachers, restaurant owners and representatives from GTE and Amgen.

Chamber and school officials hope to enlist more business people this year. To participate, students must send a completed application to the career center at their school by Monday. Business people who would like to participate must contact the chamber by March 7.
