GARDEN GROVE : Councilman Elected to El Toro Advisory Panel

Share

Councilman Mark Leyes has been elected to a panel that will advise the Orange County Board of Supervisors on the use of the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.

Officials from Anaheim, Fountain Valley, Yorba Linda and San Clemente also were selected to serve on the panel by members of the Orange County Division of the California League of Cities.

The El Toro Airport Citizens Advisory Commission will recommend various uses for El Toro, including building an airport as mandated last November when voters approved Measure A. The base is due to close in 1998.

Leyes helped draft the initiative, which, among other things, calls for setting aside 2,000 acres of the base property for a commercial airport.
