NORWALK : $22,000 in Taxes Sought From Bankrupt Hotel
City officials are seeking $22,000 in unpaid taxes from the Sheraton Norwalk Hotel.
The hotel, which is an independently owned franchise, failed to pay its bed taxes for a period between November and early December, 1994, said City Manager Ernie Garcia. The city levies an 8% tax on every room rental.
The hotel filed for bankruptcy Dec. 6 and plans to pay off its debt after a judge orders a payment plan, said manager Irene Kuc. “These people will get paid,” she said.
The city has hired a Santa Cruz law firm specializing in bankruptcy cases to help City Atty. Steven L. Dorsey recover the outstanding taxes. Dorsey said he and the other attorneys are still deciding what type of legal action is appropriate.
All taxes for the period after Dec. 6 have been paid, city and hotel officials said.
