The Vietnamese Community of Southern California has donated more than $5,000 to several local charities and nonprofit groups from proceeds of this year’s Tet Festival.
Van Tran, representing the Vietnamese civic group, presented the money during Tuesday’s City Council meeting. He said more than 100,000 people attended the three-day festival, the first ever in Garden Grove.
A similar festival took place Feb. 3 through 5 in Little Saigon in Westminster. Tran said the Garden Grove festival earned about $60,000. Part of the money will be distributed to Vietnamese American social organizations, he said.
Local charities that received donations were the Assistance League of Garden Grove, the Adult Day Care Center, Grove Theater Center, Senior Meals and Services, Guardettes of Garden Grove, Miss Garden Grove Pageant and Mathew’s Children.
The Garden Grove Police Department also received a donation for its Drug Abuse Resistance Education program and Garden Grove High School’s Grad Night.
