Midway City is an unincorporated community nestled between Westminster and Huntington Beach. Its residents like the independence that comes with not being part of a larger city.

The area consists of modest single-family homes, apartments and some commercial buildings on major streets.

Numerous attempts have been made to annex the area. In the 1950s, officials proposed forming “Tri-City” out of Westminster, Midway City and Barber City, a small community to the west. Barber City was annexed by Westminster, but Midway City residents remained independent. In the 1970s and 1980s, Westminster made several attempts to swallow up Midway City. But residents rose up against the effort.
