U.S. Building Permits Down 8.4% for January: The seasonally adjusted annual rate for the month fell to 1.302 million after increasing 4.9% in December to 1.421 million, the Commerce Department said in its regular revision of the statistics. Previously, the government said permits had fallen 8.6% in January to an annual rate of 1.299 million.
