THOUSAND OAKS : Latina Journalist to Speak at Seminar

An award-winning journalist and National Public Radio correspondent will be the keynote speaker at the 16th annual “Creative Options: A Day for Women” seminar Saturday at Cal Lutheran University.

Maria Hinojosa, the host of NPR’s “Latino USA” weekly news and culture program, will speak at the event at 9 a.m. Hinojosa recently won first place in a New York Newswomen’s Assn. contest and was given another first-place award from the National Assn. of Hispanic Journalists for her revealing portrayal of the lives of New York City gang members.

The event, sponsored by the Thousand Oaks branch of the American Assn. for University Women and Cal Lutheran University’s Women’s Resource Center, will feature about 70 workshops on topics ranging from sexuality to the environment.

About 1,000 people are expected to attend the seminar. Spaces are still available at a cost of $23. For information, call 493-3839.

Proceeds from the event will go to scholarships for women at Cal Lutheran University.
