BRIEFLY : Scholarship: Fund for Catholic Students

A local foundation has set aside $26,000 for scholarships for fourth-grade Catholic school students who participate in an essay contest honoring Father Junipero Serra, founder of the California missions.

The scholarships, established by the William H. Hannon Foundation, will be awarded to students from various Catholic elementary schools, five of which are on the Westside. Winners will receive $1,000 for their fifth-grade tuition.
