Chiron to Buy J&J; Unit: The biotechnology company’s Chiron Vision unit will acquire the ophthalmic surgical division of Johnson & Johnson’s Iolab unit for about $95 million. Chiron Corp. said it will combine the units, which are leading suppliers of intraocular lenses and related products used in cataract surgery. The businesses each had sales of about $100 million last year. The restructuring will result in an unspecified first-quarter charge to Emeryville, Calif.-based Chiron, whose stock closed 25 cents higher at $57.25 on the Nasdaq. J&J; rose 25 cents to $58 on the New York Stock Exchange.
