A 16-year-old Pomona boy and his older sister were killed after exchanging words with two gang members over a minor traffic accident, police said Monday.

An 18-year-old girl, who was in the car with the brother and sister, was also critically injured in the Saturday night shooting. Two 17-year-olds who described themselves as gang members were arrested Sunday.

Sergio Soto and his sister, Jennifer Soto, 22, were shot near a carport in the 1100 block of East Pasadena Street just before 9 p.m., Pomona Police Sgt. Michael Ervin said.

The third victim, Angie Bays, also of Pomona, was shot in the torso. She was in critical condition Monday at Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center.

Details of the shooting were sketchy, but police believe that an argument ensued after the victims’ car accidentally hit the car driven by the suspects. Police are unsure which of the victims was driving.

Right after the accident, the three victims got out of the car to talk with the occupants of the car they had hit. All three were then shot without warning, police said.

Jennifer Soto’s 5-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old relative were in the back seat but were unharmed, police said.

Both teen-age suspects were being held at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder, police said. The names of the suspects were not released because of their ages.

Police recovered a .45-caliber handgun believed to have been used in the murders.
