USAir Will Trim Flight Schedule: The carrier said it plans to eliminate nearly 10% of its 2,500 daily flights by July in an effort to save more than $100 million a year and return to profit. The reductions and 70 other flights to be added will leave USAir’s overall capacity reduced by about 5%, the company said. It will substitute regional aircraft in areas where passenger loads have been too light to support jet service, Chairman Seth Schofield said. The airline said the service cuts may produce some layoffs but that it has not yet determined how many. USAir has been struggling with large losses. It reported a $322-million loss for the fourth quarter of 1994, triple that of the final quarter of 1993.
