In B.H., They Still Love N.Y.

When Tiffany & Co. and Saks Fifth Avenue first expanded outside New York, they landed in Beverly Hills.

Beverly Hills has become a second home for many New York institutions (including the Museum of TV and Radio coming in ’96 and Bloomingdale’s in ‘97) and it even has a New York Alumni Assn. with 15,000 members, according to the Beverly Hills Visitors’ Bureau.

So B.H. has come up with a way to celebrate the ties that bind the two cities: the “Beverly Hills Loves New York Parade.”

On Sunday, three of the 25- to 40-foot balloons from Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will lead the parade down Rodeo Drive. The balloons have been a staple on Thanksgiving Day in New York for more than 40 years. They will be accompanied by marching bands, honking taxis (to really stir those New York memories) and a 30-foot Statue of Liberty.

Donna Hanover Giuliani, First Lady of New York as the wife of the governor, will be grand marshal. Honorary grand marshal is Jerry Tierstein, winner of the “best cab driver” contest. Numerous celebrities will be on hand, including Dom DeLuise, Martin Landau, John Raitt, Estelle Getty, Fyvush Finkel (“Picket Fences”), Jeff Conaway and Hinton Battle (“The Wiz”).

Following the parade at the Civic Center Plaza, 455 N. Rexford Drive, Raitt, Battle and others will appear at a free pre-Broadway concert. A Beverly Hills Symphony concert follows at 2 p.m.; donation of $10 is suggested.

The parade begins at 11 a.m. in the 100 block of Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Free to spectators. Information: (800) 345-2210.
