L.A. Planners Seek Input From Valley

Share

Every city in California is required by law to have a current General Plan. Los Angeles’ plan was last updated in 1974, when the City Council adopted the “Centers Concept,” which encouraged development in urban centers such as Century City or downtown.

The plan now under review builds on that idea and refines it to correspond to long-range improvements to the regional bus and rail networks.

Planners are taking their ideas on the road over the next month to solicit comments from the public. Wednesday’s hearing was the first in the San Fernando Valley. On March 18, a second hearing will take place at 9 a.m. in the auditorium at Beachy Avenue Elementary School in Arleta. A third hearing will be March 21 at 4:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Canoga Park High School.

After public comments are collected, the plan will go before the Planning Commission for review later this spring. The City Council is expected to vote on a final version before the end of the year.
