Pop Album Chart : Fans Checking Into Crow’s ‘Club’

Grammy winner Sheryl Crow’s “Tuesday Night Music Club” got a boost from all that media exposure, jumping to No. 4--its highest chart position ever. Look for it to challenge the new pop-chart leader, Bruce Springsteen’s “Greatest Hits,” which entered at No. 1. Less fortunate was Slash, the latest member of Guns N’ Roses to find that a solo career is another ballgame. Slash’s new band, Slash’s Snakepit, has an album that hasn’t gone anywhere. After an unimpressive debut at No. 70 three weeks ago, “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere” plunged to No. 129. The word was better for Compton rapper DJ Quik, whose third album jumped off to a fast start, entering at No. 14 last week, followed by a solid second week, finishing at No. 16. Pop singles: Madonna’s “Take a Bow” continues its long run at the top but is on the verge of losing its crown to TLC’s “Red Light Special,” which skyrocketed to No. 5, giving the group a remarkable two Top 5 singles (“Creep” is No. 3).

* Tony Bennett’s album also boarded the Grammy gravy train. Although “MTV Unplugged” came out last June, never got higher than No. 69 and dropped off the chart after months of slow, steady sales, winning the best album Grammy has obviously inspired some fans to see what all the fuss is about. It re-entered the chart at No. 48.
