Dolphins Sign Quarterback Bonner

Former Cal State Northridge quarterback Sherdrick Bonner has signed a free-agent contact with the Miami Dolphins, Northridge Coach Bob Burt said.

Bonner played at Northridge from 1987-90. He played last season with the Arizona Rattlers of the indoor Arena Football League.

Baseball

Cal State Northridge’s three-game baseball series at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, opening Western Athletic Conference play, has been delayed two days because of rain.

Weather permitting, a doubleheader will be played Sunday at 1 p.m. Site and date of the third game are undetermined.

Softball

Verdugo Hills pitcher Shannon Schoonover has committed to Northeast Louisiana, choosing the Indians over Humboldt State.

The 5-foot-9 Schoonover, an All-City selection last season, was 15-0 before losing to Monroe in the City final. She helped Verdugo Hills win the City title in 1993.

Golf

The Verdguo Hills Hospice Golf Classic, featuring PGA pro Duffy Waldorf, has been rescheduled for March 20 at Brookside in Pasadena. Information: 818-956-1860.

Steve Garvey and Dave Taylor will play in the 10th Nutrasweet Celebrity tournament at El Caballero Country Club, March 20.

Track and Field

The Ventura Relays, scheduled for today at Channel Islands High, have been postponed because of rain. The meet will be held April 7 at a site to be determined.

The Burbank Invitational, scheduled to be held at Burbank High today, has been postponed until March 18 due to the weather.

Thirty-one high schools were expected to compete in the meet, which began in 1974.
