Mark O’Meara, hoping to end a three-year victory drought, shot a two-under-par 69 Saturday for a 204 total and a three-stroke after the third round of the Honda Classic at Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Britain’s Nick Faldo, who also shot a 69, is second, and it’s no small comfort to O’Meara, who once led by seven strokes.

‘He’s a world-class player and playing with confidence after the win last week,” O’Meara said. “No lead’s big enough.”

Ian Woosnam of Wales and Blaine McCallister, who grew up in the wind-scoured wastes of Ft. Stockton in west Texas, shared third at 209.

Dottie Mochrie, overcoming missed opportunities, 45 m.p.h. winds and a downpour, parred nine consecutive holes while shooting a 72 for a two-stroke lead in the Ping-Welch’s LPGA tournament at Tucson.

Mochrie’s six-under 210 leads Caroline Pierce and Amy Alcott.

Defending champion Jim Albus, who started the day one under par, fired eight birdies for a seven-under 65 and a one-stroke lead in the second round of the Dominion seniors tournament at San Antonio.

Albus, at eight-under 136, leads Dick Rhyan and Bob Dickson. Dickson, who shared the lead Friday with Lee Elder, shot a 70.
