Oxnard police are searching for the driver of a vehicle that slammed into a pedestrian Sunday afternoon, killing the 52-year-old man instantly.

Investigators said Thomas Magana of Oxnard was crossing Saviers Road just north of Clara Street in south Oxnard about 4 p.m. when a northbound white Nissan Pathfinder struck him and failed to stop.

Magana was walking outside the crosswalk when he was hit, police said.

Witnesses gave police a description of the vehicle but were unable to provide any details about the suspect, who is being sought for suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, traffic investigator Randey Cole said.

“We do expect there to be damage to the front grill of the truck and the right front headlight,” Cole said.

No other information on Magana was available late Sunday. Police are asking anyone with information about the accident to call Officer Cole at (805) 385-7750.
