Robert Hershman; CBS News Producer Won Peabody Award

Robert Hershman, 41, award-winning producer for CBS News. A native of Cleveland and graduate of Harvard University, Hershman began his television career working for PBS’ “MacNeil-Lehrer Report.” After receiving a Carnegie fellowship, he moved to New York City where he helped to found the Museum of Broadcasting and Television and served as its first vice president. At CBS, he worked principally for the magazine shows “West 57th” and “48 Hours,” producing stories in Cambodia, Thailand, Cuba and Haiti and programs ranging from interviews with England’s Prince Charles to the spread of AIDS in Orange County. Hershman was twice nominated for Emmy awards and earned the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award. He and his partner Gary Barton won the 1992 leadership award from the AIDS Action Council of Washington, D.C. On Saturday in Santa Monica of complications from AIDS.
