Strong swimmers seeking temporary or part-time work can apply now to become lifeguards or swim instructors for the city of Laguna Beach.

Seasonal and rookie lifeguards must undergo testing, including completing an 1,000-yard ocean swim in 20 minutes or less. Applicants who pass the physical tests and oral interview will begin a training program in May.

Rookie lifeguards continue to receive training throughout the summer and work under the direct supervision of other lifeguards. The hourly pay for a seasonal lifeguard is $9.62 and for a rookie lifeguard is $7.25.
