PREP GOLF ‘95: PREVIEW : Six Teams to Watch : Estancia
Coach: Art Perry (seventh year).
1994: 14-4, 7-1 in the Pacific Coast League. Tied Trabuco Hills for first place in league, finished eighth at Southern Regional.
Key returners: Joe Huang, Jr.; Peter Krutzik, Jr.; Alex Lassen, Jr.; Ross Necessary, Jr.; Jeff Perry, So.; Mike Perry, Jr.
Key newcomers: Adam Caldwell, So.; Matt Espejo, So.; Andy Thompson, Fr.
Outlook: Estancia, which won three consecutive Southern Section team titles (1989, ’90 and ‘91) but hasn’t reached the team final since 1992, might be on the verge of climbing back into contention. Mike Perry won the league individual title last year and Necessary finished second, but Krutzik is the team’s top player. Jeff Perry, who started several games at quarterback for Estancia last fall, and Thompson, who has moved into the No. 5 spot, are also playing well. Art Perry’s teams are as well-prepared as any high school golf team, giving the Eagles a postseason edge. “We’ve got a shot this year,” Art Perry said, “but there are a lot of other good teams. We just hope we are hot the day of the tournament.”
